Angola renews presence in SADC joint force to support Mozambique

The National Assembly approved the report’s joint opinion on the specialty and the draft resolution authorizing the President of the Republic to maintain the Angolan component of the SADC Standby Force in Mozambique.
The draft resolution authorizes the President, as Commander in Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces to maintain the Angolan component that will consist of 20 military personnel, including two officers in the regional cooperation mechanism, eight officers in command of the force and 10 crew members.
The Angolan mission also includes material resources, including an IL-76 strategic aircraft, financial resources of US$1,174,307, for three months, including logistical support and training, to strengthen the capacity of Mozambique’s armed forces.
The document stresses that Angola is a member state of SADC since its foundation in 1980, and that the community is governed by the principles of sovereign equality, solidarity, non-interference in the internal affairs of states and cooperation in various areas.
