Year-on-year inflation in Mozambique decelerated again in May to its lowest level in 13 months, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced Tuesday.
Inflation stood at 8.23% during the month of May, 1.38 percentage points less than in April. This was the second consecutive month of decelerating price increases.
The decrease in gasoline prices contributed to the trend, along with the price reduction of some foods, such as tomatoes, coconut, corn grain, cabbage and cabbage, INE pointed out in the bulletin of the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Adding up the monthly figures, the first five months of the year closed with an accumulated inflation of 3.16%. The CPI bulletin collects data to calculate inflation in eight Mozambican cities: Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Quelimane, Tete, Chimoio, Xai-xai and Inhambane.
