In a statement, the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) said that “technical procedures are underway to ensure that the contract for the block, located in the Cabo Ledo commune, Luanda, is carried out within the safety and environmental standards required in the industry”.
The document points out that the operators of the block are the consortium made up of Sonangol Pesquisa e Produção (with 30%), as operator, Brite’s Oil and Gas (with 25%), the Simples Oil Group and Atlas Petroleum Exploration Worldwide (which hold 20% each), as well as Omega Risk Solutions Angola (with 5%).
“This is a concession awarded as part of the 2020 bidding process,” the statement said, adding that “in the event of promising results after drilling, the consortium should move on to the collection of geological and geophysical data, with the aim of improving the mapping of structures in the block, without jeopardizing the preliminary development aimed at restarting production.”
“The restart of exploration activities in the KON11 block represents an important milestone for the Angolan oil industry, as it means the reactivation of operations in an onshore block that has not been active since the 1990s due to the adverse context at the time,” the statement said.
