The Provincial Election Commissions of Maputo and Cabo Delgado announced the election results this Sunday October 13. In Maputo, Daniel Chapo from the ruling FRELIMO party won 53.68% of the votes, followed by Venâncio Mondlane with 33.84%.
Ana Chemane, president of the Maputo Provincial Election Commission, declared Chapo the winner of the presidential race. Behind him were Venâncio Mondlane from PODEMOS with 33.84%, Ossufo Momade from RENAMO with 9.62%, and Lutero Simango from MDM with 2.86%.
FRELIMO also secured 57.78% of the vote for the legislative elections, followed by PODEMOS with 20.53%, RENAMO with 12.62%, and MDM with 6.34%. FRELIMO’s Maputo secretary, António Niquice, called the results “fair,” attributing the victory to their strong manifesto.
In Cabo Delgado, with 1,185,024 registered voters, Daniel Chapo led in all 17 districts, earning 65.81% of the votes. Venâncio Mondlane followed with 22.64%, Ossufo Momade with 7.56%, and Lutero Simango with 3.99%.
For the legislative elections in Cabo Delgado, FRELIMO garnered 66.44%, followed by PODEMOS with 14.58%, RENAMO with 8.69%, and MDM with 3.14%. In the provincial assemblies, FRELIMO led with 72.33%, followed by RENAMO with 11.69%, PAHUMO with 9.43%, and MDM with 6.55%.
