Angola Crushes Mali to Claim 12th Afrobasket Crown

Angola secured on Sunday its 12th Afrobasket title in emphatic fashion, overwhelming Mali 70–43 in the 2025 final in Luanda.
The Palancas Negras dominated from start to finish, fuelled by relentless intensity, 19 offensive rebounds, and sharp shooting from Childe Dundao, who contributed 16 points. Mali, playing in its first-ever continental final after eliminating Senegal, struggled to cope with Angola’s physicality and experience. Their top scorer, Mahamane Coulibaly, managed just two points, reflecting the Eagles’ lack of composure on the big stage.
Despite flashes of promise, Mali’s young generation—known for its run to the 2019 U19 World Cup final—was undone by turnovers, poor execution, and inexperience against a seasoned opponent. Angola, which has now won every Afrobasket hosted on its soil, showcased its trademark resilience, combining defensive discipline with controlled offence to shut down any Malian fightback. Though their semi-final win against Cameroon drew controversy, Angola’s final triumph left no doubt: they remain the undisputed powerhouse of African basketball.
