Madagascar Launches Six-Month National Consultation on Constitutional Reform

Madagascar on Wednesday, 10 December, inaugurated its National Consultation (NC) in the capital, marking the beginning of a nationwide process aimed at driving constitutional reform and establishing the country’s Fifth Republic.
The platform convenes institutional leaders, Government officials, political and diplomatic stakeholders, religious figures and citizens, reflecting a broad national constituency.
Minister of State for Refoundation, Hanitriniaina Razafimanantsoa, underscored the NC as a cornerstone of the country’s refoundation agenda, designed to secure inclusive participation in shaping Madagascar’s future governance architecture.
The six-month consultation will progress from the fokontany level through communes, districts and regions. President Michael Randrianirina had announced in November that the initiative would set the groundwork for a renewed system of governance.
