Judicial service employees across Ghana will launch an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, 19 January, after the government failed to pay eight months of salary arrears dating back to last year. The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) notified the National Labour Commission that members can no longer endure the “unbearable situation” caused by the state’s failure to meet its financial obligations.
The dispute centres on a 10% base pay increase for 2025, approved by the President for all public sector workers to take effect from 1 January 2025. While other sectors received the adjustment promptly, judicial staff only began receiving the increased pay in September 2025, with promised arrears for January–August remaining unpaid.
Despite repeated follow-ups, including a written assurance from management on 16 December 2025 that arrears would be settled that month, no payment was made. JUSAG described December 2025 as “one of the most difficult moments for staff,” and declared that the strike will continue until all outstanding salary arrears are fully paid.
