At least 30 people lost their lives on Sunday after an overloaded truck carrying passengers and goods crashed in Nigeria’s north-western Kano State. The accident occurred on Sunday morning at Kwanar Barde, a village in the Gezawa Local Government Area, after the driver reportedly lost control of the
vehicle while travelling on a highway.
Local authorities attributed the crash to reckless driving, noting that many other passengers sustained injuries. Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf described the incident as unfortunate and directed health authorities to provide free and prompt medical care to survivors.
The tragedy underscores Nigeria’s persistent road safety challenges, where accidents frequently occur due to overloading, poor road conditions and dangerous driving practices.
