Mozambique Welcomes China’s Tariff Exemption, Sees New Export Opportunities

The Mozambican Government has welcomed China’s decision to grant full tariff exemptions on products imported from 53 African countries with diplomatic ties to Beijing, highlighting the move as a significant opportunity to expand exports to the Chinese market.

Speaking at a press conference following the weekly Council of Ministers meeting in Maputo on Tuesday, Government spokesperson Inocencio Impissa said Mozambique received the announcement “with great pleasure.”

He urged local businesses to capitalise on the measure, particularly those involved in trade and exports.

“We recommend that companies, entrepreneurs, and those engaged in commerce and exports take advantage of this opening to grow their businesses,” he stated.

Impissa added that the exemption could boost exporters’ earnings and strengthen Mozambique’s presence in China, describing it as “a window of opportunity that we all have to take advantage of.” The announcement, made during the 39th African Union summit, specifies that the zero-tariff treatment will take effect from May 1, 2026.
