Nigerian Troops Kill 25 ISWAP Fighters in Borno Operations

Nigerian forces have neutralised at least 25 members of the ISIS-affiliated terrorist group ISWAP during operations in the northeastern State of Borno, authorities said on Sunday. According to Lt Col Sani Uba, media information officer of the Theatre Command, troops launched targeted operations against fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Limankara and Kukawa areas.

He stated that 15 militants were killed during a firefight, while several others fled with gunshot wounds. Subsequent aerial surveillance tracked fleeing fighters on five motorcycles, leading to a precision strike that eliminated an additional 10 militants. Lt Col Uba added that troops destroyed key defensive and logistics structures used by the group. Two vehicles, multiple weapons and a substantial cache of ammunition were also recovered.

Nigeria has for years faced persistent security challenges, including attacks by armed gangs and insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP across various regions of the country.
