Mamady Doumbouya ‘In Good Health’, Aides Say After Extended Absence

Guinea’s President, Mamady Doumbouya, is in “good health”, authorities said on Monday, seeking to quell speculation after he remained outside the country for more than two weeks. The 41-year-old leader left Guinea on February 13 to attend an African Union Summit in Addis Ababa and has not yet returned to Conakry.

Doumbouya, who came to power in a coup, was elected President for a seven-year term in December 2025. In recent months, he has kept a low public profile, appearing only once on the campaign trail at a closing rally where he did not speak, and later to cast his ballot. He was sworn in before tens of thousands of supporters at a Stadium in January 2026, and was last seen publicly in February, during the AU summit.

Speaking to local media on Monday, presidential adviser Thierno Mamadou Bah said Doumbouya “is in good health” and is expected back in Conakry “in the next few days”. Bah explained that the President had taken “a few days of rest” on the sidelines of the Summit, without disclosing his location. He added that Doumbouya had also undergone a routine medical check-up.

“He took advantage of the chance to undergo a routine medical check-up, as prudent leaders do when they are concerned with maintaining their full capacity to act,” Bah said. “I can state, with the utmost clarity, that the results are reassuring, everything is going very well”, he added.
