Authorities from Senegal have held a series of discussions in New York with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of preliminary negotiations toward a new economic cooperation programme.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva described the talks on Tuesday, April 14 as productive, emphasizing the importance of sound fiscal management and structural reforms to reduce debt vulnerabilities and support long-term growth.
The Senegalese delegation was led by Finance and Budget Minister Cheikh Diba and Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation Abdourahmane Sarr. Discussions focused on strengthening macroeconomic stability and advancing the country’s development agenda.
Officials reiterated their commitment to fiscal discipline and structural reforms, seen as critical prerequisites for securing a formal agreement with the IMF. The ongoing engagement reflects efforts to position Senegal for sustainable economic growth and enhanced cooperation with international financial institutions.
