Haaland’s Brace Fires Norway into World Cup Knockouts After 3-2 Win Over Senegal

Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway edged Senegal 3-2 on June 22 to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Norway took control of the Group I encounter at the New York New Jersey Stadium, with Marcus Holmgren Pedersen opening the scoring late in the first half before Haaland doubled the lead shortly after the break.

Senegal responded through Ismaila Sarr, who reduced the deficit and later scored again in stoppage time to set up a tense finish, but defensive errors proved costly for the African side.

Haaland, in prolific form, capitalized on Senegal’s lapses to restore Norway’s advantage, bringing his tournament tally to four goals in two matches, and extending his international scoring record to 59 goals in 52 appearances.

The result ensures Norway progress to the last 32 with a game to spare, while Senegal must defeat Iraq in their final group fixture to keep their hopes of qualification alive. Norway will next face France in a decisive clash for top spot in the group in Boston on Friday, June 26.
