Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marking the first stop of a tour of African countries, according to Russian state media.
Lavrov is expected to meet Ethiopian leaders on Tuesday, including Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos, to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.
A key item on the agenda is expected to be plans for the construction of a large-scale nuclear power plant in Ethiopia. The two sides are also expected to discuss expanding trade, building on talks held during their previous meeting in 2025.
The visit is Lavrov’s first to Ethiopia since July 2022. Russia has not officially announced the tour, and the other African countries on the itinerary have not yet been disclosed.
