More than 4,500 people have been displaced across Sudan’s North Darfur and Blue Nile states amid worsening insecurity, the International Organization for Migration said on Wednesday, 9 September 2026.
In North Darfur, about 1,275 people fled Gorbora and Wadi Arkawi villages between 3 and 6 September. Some relocated to Karnoy locality, while others crossed into neighbouring Chad. In Blue Nile state, approximately 3,315 people, representing 663 families, were displaced from villages in Geisan locality on 7 September. They moved to Wad al-Mahi locality following deteriorating security conditions.
The displacement followed an earlier wave on 5 September. The IOM reported on Sunday that another 1,690 people had fled three villages in Blue Nile’s Kurmuk locality because of escalating violence. Authorities in Kurmuk said the Sudanese army repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces and its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, in the Al-Baraka area on 4 September.
Sudan’s army and the RSF have been at war since April 2023, with the conflict killing tens of thousands and displacing about 13 million people, according to UN and international estimates.
