Zimbabwe announced a funding agreement on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, for an upgrade of the Chirundu border crossing with Zambia. The agreement with the Chirundu Border Consortium clears the way for construction aimed at reducing freight delays.
Chirundu Border is a key crossing on the North–South Corridor, linking the Zambia–DRC Copperbelt with Ports in South Africa and Mozambique. It became Africa’s first one-stop border post in 2009.
The Government did not disclose the final investment figure. Its Cabinet had previously estimated the project at $66.8 million, with private investors operating the upgraded crossing under a 20-year concession.
