Cameroon: Toni Conceicao named head coach after AFCON debacle

Cameroon has appointed Portuguese former international Toni Conceicao as the new manager of The Indomitable Lions two months after the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

The Sport ministry and the Cameroonian football federation, FECAFOOT, picked the Portuguese technician to replace Dutch pair Clarence Seedorf – Patrick Kluvert axed right after Cameroon lost its title as winner of African Champions following a very poor performance at the competition in Egypt last summer.

Officially known as Antonio Conceicao Da Silva Oliveira, Conceicao has no experience on the African continent but a name for himself at home in Portugal and Romania where he won several trophies with CRF Cluj.

He is tasked to help the national team win the 2021 AFCON to take place in Cameroon. The one who only made one appearance in the Portuguese national team will make his debut in the team on October 12 in a friendly with Tunisia.

For Indomitable Lions, François Omam Biyick and Jacques Songo’o will assist Conceicao respectively as assistant coach and goal keepers’ coach.
