African Union: Morocco Stresses Importance of Regional Integration as Prerequisite for Continental Integration

Morocco stressed Wednesday in Addis-Ababa, the importance of regional integration as a prerequisite for continental integration.

Permanent Representative to the African Union and UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi, who was presenting Morocco’s vision for fostering continental integration before the 42nd session of the African Union Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC), stressed the important role of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in continental integration.

The Moroccan diplomat welcomed the initiative elaborated by the African Union and its partners in 2018 of the Africa Multidimensional Regional Integration Index (AMRII).

This index is a relevant tool to better understand the progress of integration at the Regional Economic Communities level, targeting in a more practical way the gaps, Arrouchi noted.

The Moroccan diplomat called on the various African stakeholders to strengthen the Regional Economic Communities as a necessary step towards achieving continental integration for the benefit of the African people.
