The Angolan Industrial Production Index (IPI), for the third quarter of the year 2022, registered a variation of 3.8% compared to the same period in 2021, influenced mainly by the increase in the Production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, with 7.4%.
According to the provisional result of the IPI survey, conducted by the Angolan National Statistics Institute (INE), also influencing the variation were the increase in water collection, treatment and distribution and sanitation, with 4.8%, the extractive industries, with 4.1%, and the manufacturing industries, with 2.4%.
The document, consulted today by the Lusa agency, stresses that compared to the previous quarter, the industrial activity observed a variation of -1.3%, influenced by the activity of production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam, with -6.8%, and extractive industries, with -1.6%.
“The personnel employed index, during Q3 2022, registered a growth of 3.1% compared to Q3 2021 (year-on-year change) and -1.0% when compared to Q2 2022 (quarterly change),” the survey reveals.
The survey also indicates that the index of hours worked registered, in the same period, a year-on-year change of 3.3% and a quarterly change of -0.6% and that, analyzing the industrial production index by type of goods, it was found that energy products, in the III trimester of 2022, were the ones that registered the highest year-on-year change, with 4.3%.
The IPI is carried out by the INE on a quarterly basis in 398 selected establishments nationwide, especially in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Cabinda, Benguela, Huíla, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Lunda Norte, Malanje, Uíge, Zaire, Huambo, Namibe and Bié.
The province of Luanda, with 201 establishments, has the most establishments in the sample, representing about 51% of the total. Of the 398 establishments surveyed, during the period under review, 355 responded, which corresponds to a response rate of 89%, considered in statistical terms of good coverage.
The survey aims to know the structure, growth and productivity of the industrial sector in Angola in the reference period, to produce basic statistical information for national accounts, government, international organizations, academics, entrepreneurs and other users.
