The President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, on Wednesday promised his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, that he will continue to contribute to the “search for a just and peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.”
An information released on his official page on the social network Facebook, Umaro Sissoco Embaló reported that he talked on the phone with the Ukrainian President.
“President Embaló reiterated to President Zelensky that he will continue to contribute to the search for a just and peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine,” the message posted reads.
Umaro Sissoco Embaló made a visit to Ukraine in October last year, the first by an African head of state to the country as acting president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Previously the Guinean president had been in Russia.
Russia has launched a military offensive in Ukraine that has already caused thousands of deaths and millions of refugees. The Russian invasion was condemned by the international community in general, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and strengthening economic sanctions against Moscow.
The Russian military offensive in Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24th of last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
