Canada’s mining company Montage Gold has made the largest discovery in Côte D’Ivoire at the Kone mining project.
Production is planned for 2027 in the mine, which is expected to have a life span of 20 years at an annual extraction rate of 11 million tons of ore.
“The mineral resources of this deposit, the largest mine in the country to date, are estimated at 5 million ounces, or 155.5 tons of gold with an average grade of 0.72g/t,” Martino De Ciccio, CEO of Montage Gold said.
Construction at the mine will begin by end of this year.
By the end of last year, Côte D’Ivoire had 227 active industrial mines and 149 traditional ones.
Côte D’Ivoire is also rich in diamonds, iron, nickel, manganese and copper.
