Morocco’s Football Olympic Team Make History Winning Bronze Medal at 2024 Olympic Games

Morocco won their first-ever medal at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament with a stunning victory over Egypt. The Atlas Lions thrashed Egypt 6-0 in placement match in Nantes on Thursday to finish third at the Men’s Olympic Football Tournament Paris 2024.

Moroccan goals were scored by Abdessamad Ezzalzouli (23′), Soufiane Rahimi, who scored twice (26′, 64′), Bilal El Khannouss (51′), Akram Nakach (73′) and Achraf Hakimi (87′).

Following this victory, King Mohammed VI sent a congratulations message to the members of the national team.

“We can only, with this Olympic feat, the first of its kind for Moroccan football, salute your outstanding performance throughout this prestigious tournament, the high spirit of competitiveness and sincere patriotism that you have shown through your firm determination to confirm the privileged and prime place that Moroccan football now holds continentally and internationally,” the Monarch said in this message.

Reiterating his sincere congratulations to the members of the national team and to all those who contributed to achieving this honorable feat, the King wished the members of the Moroccan team further success in their promising sporting career, assuring them of his solicitude and benevolence.

This is Morocco’s first Olympic medal in football, joining athletics and boxing as sports having secured Olympic medals for Morocco.

Owing to this victory, Morocco has secured two medals at the Paris Olympics, following Soufiane El Bakkali’s gold in the 3,000 steeplechase on Wednesday.
