The Portuguese Armed Forces will train 19 Cape Verdean soldiers for two months, who will be promoted to sergeant major and then integrated into international missions, it was announced on Wednesday August 7.
This course aims to develop the trainees’ essential skills, enabling them to carry out duties in all functional areas of the commands and services of the Armed Forces, compatible with the rank of sergeant major, said the Chief of Staff of the Cape Verde Armed Forces, António Duarte Monteiro, in Praia, at the opening of the training.
From this Wednesday, August 7, until October 4, 19 soldiers from the national guard, coast guard and other commands and services are taking part in this training given by Portuguese instructors, which will include five modules, namely military law and legislation, defense and international relations, military leadership, world history, and solving “complex problems”.
The initiative is part of the technical-military cooperation between Portugal and Cape Verde, covering the 2021-2026 period, and aims to equip trainees with leadership skills, resource management and technical skills.
“We have been able to count on technical-military cooperation, which, in actions of this nature, gives an international dimension to our military teaching-learning system, raising the quality and prestige of our Armed Forces and ensuring that our military personnel are trained to take part in international missions,” António Duarte Monteiro said.
