On Monday, November 4, members of Portugal’s Public Security Police began a training program in São Tomé and Príncipe for 26 senior officers of the archipelago’s defense and security Forces. The training focuses on key areas such as planning, command, evaluation, and control of operations.
This course, now in its second edition, includes trainers from São Tomé’s own National Police, with plans for future sessions to be fully conducted by local trainers with remote support from Portugal. The program spans six months, combining in-person and online sessions, knowledge exchanges, and a final scientific presentation.
According to a statement from the Portuguese Embassy in São Tomé, the 470-hour training program is designed to equip participants with advanced knowledge, technical skills, and best practices for senior-level roles, with special emphasis on resource management in higher-level units.
“Portugal remains firmly committed to technical police and civil protection cooperation with the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, making it the country’s largest regular investor in this field,” the embassy statement said.
