Sudanese Army Reclaims Territory in Blue Nile and South Kordofan Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Sudanese military announced on Wednesday it has regained control of the Baldagu area and its surroundings in southern Blue Nile state after intense clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N).

Military spokesperson Nabil Abdullah confirmed the operation’s success, though neither the RSF nor SPLM-N commented on the claim. The army has been combating SPLM-N insurgents in the region since 2011, as the group continues to call for autonomous rule in Blue Nile and South Kordofan.

In a separate development, the military reported destroying a significant RSF contingent in Dilling, South Kordofan’s second-largest city, and released footage purportedly showing jubilant residents celebrating with army troops. The RSF and Sudanese armed forces have been locked in a violent power struggle since April 2023, with the conflict resulting in thousands of deaths and displacing millions, exacerbating Sudan’s dire humanitarian crisis.
