India and Ghana Cement Strategic Ties with Landmark Agreements During Modi’s Historic Visit

India and Ghana have signed on Wednesday, July 2, four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The agreements were reached during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic first visit to Ghana — the first by an Indian Prime minister in three decades. At a joint press conference, Ghanaian President John Mahama described the discussions as “significant”, highlighting both nations’ intent to elevate their relationship to new heights.
Prime Minister Modi announced that the two countries had agreed to transition their longstanding bilateral ties into a “comprehensive partnership,” emphasising India’s commitment as “a co-traveller in Ghana’s journey of nation-building.” His visit, which marks the first stop on a five-nation tour, underscores India’s renewed diplomatic and economic engagement with Africa.
President Mahama hailed the visit as a symbol of the “deep-rooted historical ties” between India and Ghana, and later conferred upon Prime Minister Modi the Order of the Star of Ghana at a state banquet in his honour. The tour will culminate in Brazil, where Modi is expected to attend the BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro.
