Morocco’s OCP secures 100% of its water needs from non-conventional sources

Morocco’s phosphates and fertilizers giant OCP announced that it achieved full reliance on desalinated and treated water for its mining and industrial processes two years ahead of the schedule in 2027.

This came in a statement announcing the completion of a 200km water pipeline that will supply the World’s largest phosphates mines in Khouribga.

The water was channeled from a desalination plant in Jorf Lasfar through a pipeline with an 80m3 annual capacity.

Part of that water will meet the drinking water needs of the city of Khouribga. OCP’s Safi plant is already supplying Safi and El Jadida.

The group would build another water pipeline to supply an industrial cite near Marrakech it said.

OCP aims to generate 610m3 annually from desalination to help free up dam water for agricultural and urban uses.
