Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno convened an emergency security meeting following a deadly drone attack along the Chad-Sudan border and ordered the immediate and complete closure of the frontier.
The attack reportedly resulted in several Chadian casualties, with local media indicating that at least 16 people were killed. In response, the President, on Wednesday, March 18, directed Prime Minister Allamaye Halina to lead a Government delegation to the affected area to assess the extent of human and material losses. He further instructed the National Army to respond decisively to any attacks originating from Sudan.
The development unfolds against the backdrop of ongoing conflict in Sudan since 2023, marked by clashes between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, exacerbating instability along the shared and porous border.
