Romuald Wadagni, who won Benin’s April 12 presidential election, will be sworn into office on May 24, according to an announcement yesterday, April 23, by the Chairman of Benin’s Constitutional Court, Dorothe Sossa.
The Constitutional Court confirmed Wadagni’s victory at a plenary session yesterday after no legal challenges were filed within the stipulated period following the release of provisional results. He secured a decisive first-round win alongside his running mate, Mariam Chabi Talata, who will assume the role of vice president.
Wadagni will serve a seven-year term, renewable once, and will take the oath of office before the National Assembly and Supreme Court. As president, he will act as both head of state and government, overseeing national policy, security, and the functioning of state institutions.
