Nigerian Troops Repel Borno Attack, Kill 25 ISWAP Fighters

Nigerian military Forces have repelled a coordinated attack by insurgents linked to Islamic State West Africa Province in Kukareta, Borno State, killing at least 25 fighters, including a senior commander.

According to Abdulsalam Abubakar on Thursday, troops engaged the militants in a counteroffensive operation lasting several hours after the assault began shortly after midnight. The attackers were forced into a disorganised retreat, while one suspect was captured alive.

Security Forces also recovered a significant cache of weapons, including rifles, machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, and rocket-propelled grenade launchers. Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving treatment.

The incident highlights the persistent insurgency in northeast Nigeria, where extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP continue to drive insecurity, resulting in widespread casualties and displacement over more than a decade.
