Tanzania has generated 191 million U.S. dollars from spice sales in both domestic and international markets so far in the 2025/2026 financial year, according to the Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA).
Speaking on Sunday at the first National Spices Stakeholders Conference in Morogoro, COPRA Director General Irine Mlola said the country remains a key global player, ranking third in cardamom production and fifth in cloves.
She noted that global spice demand stands at about 11 million tonnes annually, although Tanzania currently produces only 20,282 tonnes. To bridge this gap, the government is targeting an increase in production to 50,000 tonnes by 2030 through improved farming technologies, stronger value chains and better market systems.
