All 15 crew members aboard a cargo ship were rescued on Sunday, July 12, after a collision involving two vessels near Douala, Cameroon’s main Port city, authorities have confirmed. The Port Authority of Douala said the incident involved the outbound MV Sea Honor and the inbound MV Black Rhino.
Emergency response teams evacuated all crew members from the MV Black Rhino and began efforts to clear the affected shipping channel. The MV Sea Honor was later escorted to an anchorage area, while the MV Black Rhino was deliberately grounded to protect navigation safety.
Authorities confirmed later on Sunday that the shipping channel had been reopened. No casualties were recorded, but both vessels suffered significant material damage, causing a temporary disruption to maritime operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a loss of steering control aboard the MV Black Rhino may have caused the collision. A full technical investigation has since been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
