Dozens of Boko Haram terrorists were killed in a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrike carried over the week-end in the Yaganari area of Borno State, military authorities have announced.
NAF spokesperson Ehimen Ejodame said the operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions that confirmed the presence of terrorist hideouts and logistics hubs. He said several militants were killed, while others fled with injuries.
The airstrike also destroyed terrorist camps, with security forces recovering improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weapons and ammunition from the area. Ejodame described the operation as a major success in Nigeria’s ongoing counterterrorism campaign, saying it had significantly weakened Boko Haram’s ability to regroup and operate freely.
Boko Haram has waged an insurgency in Nigeria since the early 2000s, with tens of thousands killed in attacks since 2009. Since 2015, the group has expanded its operations into Cameroon, Chad and Niger, where its attacks across the Lake Chad Basin have killed at least 2,000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands.
