Morocco’s vaccination campaign, launched on Jan.28, is gaining speed and continues to take the lead in Africa and the Arab world. So far, more than 2.2 million Moroccans have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine and will start getting their second dose as of Feb.18.
On Thursday, over 152 000 priority people received their first covid jab. The number of first doses administered each day has been steadily soaring as the country has received to date 7 million vaccines including six million doses from AstraZenca and 1 million delivered by Sinopharm.
Morocco has ordered a total of 66 million vaccine doses from AstraZeneca (21 million doses) and 45 million others from Chinese Lab Sinopharm.
The North African Kingdom hopes to reach collective immunity within five months after having inoculated 30 million people, or 80 pc of its population, to lift all travel restrictions and prop up economic activities.
Morocco has extended a health emergency until March 10 and maintained night curfew until mid-February.
