Tunisia hosts meeting of senior naval officers from Europe, Africa

Tunisia hosted recently a meeting of senior naval officers under the patronage of the Navy, the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, the U.S. Military Academy and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, reports Tunisian news agency TAP.

 

According to a statement of the Ministry of National Defense, this meeting, held under the slogan “Strengthening common security for social peace”, was an opportunity to exchange views and expertise on security and maritime safety, particularly in the Mediterranean basin.

 

Senior naval officers from 11 European and African countries took part in the meeting.

 

In addition to Tunisia and the United States, these countries are Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Mauritania, Egypt, Malta, Italy, Spain and Greece.

 

Regional and international organizations operating in the field of marine also took part in this meeting that highlighted the importance of complementarity and cooperation between the navies to enable the various states to strengthen control over their borders and maritime spaces.
