South Africa: SAWS Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Across Four Provinces

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and a yellow level 4 warning for KwaZulu-Natal.
The warnings, valid from 12:00 to 21:59 on Tuesday, cover Gauteng, the escarpment and Highveld of Mpumalanga, and the southwestern Bushveld of Limpopo. SAWS cautioned that the storms could bring heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail, and lightning, potentially causing localised flooding, damage to infrastructure and vehicles, and loss of livestock.
KwaZulu-Natal remains under a heightened yellow level 4 warning from Monday, 11:00, until Tuesday, 23:59, due to a deepening surface trough linked to a broad upper-air disturbance. The province is expected to experience scattered thunderstorms, particularly severe in the western areas, with heavy rain, hail, and strong winds posing risks of flooding, road obstructions, and property damage. Residents in all affected provinces are urged to stay alert, avoid crossing flooded roads, and monitor official SAWS updates for safety advisories.
