The China-Kenya Business Forum convened on Monday, March 23, in Nairobi, drawing over 350 participants from both Government and business sectors to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral trade and investment.
The forum, co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency, focused on China’s zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries.
Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, CCPIT Chairman Ren Hongbin, and Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry Lee Kinyanjui delivered keynote addresses, while business leaders from both countries shared insights on practical collaboration. Ren emphasized that China’s zero-tariff treatment, effective from May 1, 2026, will open new markets for African exporters and encourage deeper commercial exchanges.
A total of 64 Chinese companies participated, representing sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, and finance. During the forum, firms from both countries signed procurement agreements and explored collaboration on products including coffee, avocados, and minerals, signalling concrete opportunities for trade growth.
Business matchmaking sessions targeted agriculture and food, manufacturing, energy and mining, trade and finance, and technology, fostering direct cooperation between enterprises. Thematic discussions also addressed logistics corridor development, agricultural partnerships, and practical strategies to implement the zero-tariff policy effectively.
An exhibition showcased 25 Kenyan companies from agriculture, mining, and manufacturing, highlighting specialty products eligible for zero-tariff exports to China. The event underscored the growing prospects for Kenyan businesses to expand their footprint in the Chinese market while strengthening long-term Sino-Kenyan commercial ties.
