Cyril Ramaphosa has placed National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola on precautionary suspension following allegations linked to a $20 million health services tender scandal. The decision was made yesterday, April 23 following the legal battle.
Masemola is accused of breaching procurement regulations in connection with a now-cancelled 2024 police contract reportedly awarded to a businessman with suspected ties to organized crime.
Ramaphosa said the decision reflects the gravity of the allegations and the strategic importance of the police commissioner’s office, adding that the suspension will remain in place pending the outcome of investigations.
