Fourteen opposition parties in Nigeria have agreed to form a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging during a week-end meeting in Ibadan to field joint candidates across all levels, including the Presidency.
The coalition aims to counter the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, amid concerns that recent political defections could pave the way for an uncontested re-election bid.
Key political figures present included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rotimi Amaechi and Peter Obi. Discussions are ongoing to present a single presidential candidate under what has been termed the “Ibadan Declaration.”
The alliance also outlined a nine-point agenda, including calls for a review of the 2026 electoral law by the National Assembly and an extension of the deadline for party primaries by the electoral commission.
