The Pan-African Parliament is set to convene an Extraordinary Session of its Seventh Legislature on Tuesday, April 28, at its headquarters in Midrand, with elections scheduled to appoint a new Bureau leadership team.
The session will elect five Bureau members—comprising one President and four Vice-Presidents—following the end of the Sixth Bureau’s mandate on 28 February 2026. The election process will be overseen by Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, alongside a High-Level Group tasked with ensuring transparency and compliance with African Union procedures.
The newly elected Bureau will serve a three-year term and reflect Africa’s regional rotation principle, with leadership positions allocated across North, East, West, Central and Southern Africa. The President will represent North Africa, while the four Vice-Presidents will represent the other sub-regions respectively.
As the PAP’s principal governing structure, the Bureau is responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing the administration and functioning of the Parliament and its organs. The election is expected to conclude on Thursday.
