Ethiopia Emphasises Development and Political Reset for Lasting Peace in Tigray

An advisor to the Ethiopian Government has called for a renewed focus on economic recovery and social stability as the foundation for lasting peace in the Tigray Region, while criticising elements within the defunct Tigray People’s Liberation Front for prioritising political ambition over public welfare.

Addressing participants at a national security Conference held on Thursday, June 25 in Addis Ababa, Getachew Reda, an advisor to the Ethiopian Government, said certain factions within the former ruling group remain intent on regaining influence at the federal level, describing their approach as disconnected from current political and social realities.

He stressed the importance of separating the actions of the TPLF leadership from the wider population of Tigray, noting that many residents are increasingly seeking alternative pathways amid concerns such as youth migration and reports of forced recruitment.

The advisor underscored that durable peace cannot be achieved through political settlements alone. Instead, he argued, stability must be anchored in job creation, economic revitalisation, and community-driven development initiatives that restore livelihoods and strengthen trust.

He further emphasised that sustainable peace in the Horn of Africa depends on deeper economic integration and people-centred development policies that foster long-term stability and collective prosperity across the region.
