Eleven people were killed in three separate shootings in Cape Town, South Africa, between Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, according to Police.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said its Serious Violent Crimes Unit was investigating the incidents in Langa, Gugulethu and Khayelitsha, all located on the Cape Flats, an area long affected by gang-related violence. In Khayelitsha, three men aged 25, 31 and 35 were shot dead at about 10:50 p.m. on Saturday. In Langa, four men and a woman were killed in a shooting at about 10:45 p.m.
In Gugulethu, two men and a woman were shot dead at about 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, while two others were wounded. Police said the motive for the shootings remained under investigation and no arrests had been made.
Authorities have reinforced police deployments in the affected communities and other potential hotspots, while Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Sizakhele Dyantyi and his management team visited the areas to oversee the investigations and security operations.
