A financing document for the project “Promoting the financial and emotional autonomy of women and girls on the island of Fogo” was signed between the Cape Verdean institute and Portuguese Cooperation.
Portuguese Cooperation and the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG) want to increase women’s productivity and economic autonomy with a project signed this Thursday.
The aim is to “intervene in these two dimensions consistent with the Cape Verdean national gender equality plan 2021/25″ and at the same time “strengthen actions to combat gender-based violence”, said the Portuguese ambassador to Cape Verde, Paulo Lourenço.
The diplomat and the president of ICIEG, Marisa Carvalho, signed the term of acceptance of funding for the project entitled “Promoting the financial and emotional autonomy of women and girls on the island of Fogo”, between the Cape Verdean institute and Portuguese Cooperation (Camões, I.P).
The initiative arose from an understanding between the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality of Portugal, the United Nations System in Cape Verde and the Ministry of Family and Inclusion and Social Development, led by ICIEG, to which Portuguese Cooperation through the Camões Institute associated a funding of 50 thousand euros. “This proposal presupposes a financial effort that is divided between the Camões Institute in 67% and ICIEG in 33% for a total of about 75 thousand euros”, said Paulo Lourenço.
