Morocco’s King Reaffirms Attachment to Two-State Solution, with Gaza Integral Part of Independent Palestinian State

King Mohammed VI has reiterated Morocco’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, affirming that complete security & stability in the Middle East can be achieved only within the framework of the two-state solution, with Gaza an integral part of the territory of the independent Palestinian state, and East Jerusalem its capital.

In his speech delivered Monday on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Sovereign’s accession to the Throne, the Monarch said as Chairman of Al-Quds Committee, “I managed to have an unprecedented route opened up, through which we delivered urgent food and medical aid to our brothers and sisters in Gaza”.

Within the same spirit of commitment and responsibility, “I continue to back constructive initiatives aimed at finding practical solutions, achieving a tangible and permanent ceasefire, and addressing the humanitarian situation”, underlined the King, saying that the deteriorating conditions in the region require going beyond the logic of crisis management and seeking, instead, a final solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

He stressed the urgent need to put an end to the war in Gaza, affirming that this must be achieved concurrently with opening up political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region.

The King also called for opening talks to revive the peace process between the Palestinian and Israeli sides to prevent extremists from exploiting the heightened tension in the region.

The Monarch also tackled the domestic situation, citing in this regard the many economic and development projects launched as well as social programs to achieve social cohesion and enable citizens to have access to basic services.

Furthermore, “I have sought to consolidate the country’s territorial integrity and enhance Morocco’s standing as an influential player and a responsible, reliable partner at the regional and international levels”, said the Monarch in his speech dominated by the challenge of water shortage, which is becoming increasingly serious due to drought, the impact of climate change, a growing demand and the delay in completing some of the projects.
