Chad opened, on Wednesday, a Consulate General in Dakhla.
The inauguration of the Consulate General’s headquarters and the installation of the new Consul General took place at a ceremony presided over by Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abderaman Koulamallah, and his Moroccan peer, Nasser Bourita.
The inauguration of the Chadian Consulate General in Dakhla confirms and implements the decision of the Republic of Chad, notified to the Moroccan authorities on 7 September 2022, to open a Consulate General in Dakhla, in the Moroccan Sahara.
During the ceremony, the two ministers stressed that the opening of the Consulate General of Chad in Dakhla reflects the quality and intensity of the ties between Morocco and Chad, which are marked by their historical depth and stamped with the seal of brotherhood and solidarity.
In a joint statement issued on this occasion, Chad’s reiterated its steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and reaffirmed its recognition of the Kingdom’s full sovereignty over its entire Saharan territory.
With this opening of the Republic of Chad, the number of Consulates in the Southern vities of Laayoune and dakhla has risen to 29, including 17 in Dakhla.
During his meeting with Bourita, the Chadian Foreign Minister “reiterated his country’s support for the Royal Initiative to promote access to the Atlantic Ocean for the countries of the Sahel.”
In a joint Communiqué issued Wednesday in Dakhla following the meeting, the Chadian official “underlined the interest shown by the two Heads of State in the development of trade relations between the two sisterly countries, particularly within the framework of the Royal Initiative to promote access to the Atlantic Ocean for the countries of the Sahel,” and stressed his country’s determination to see it put into operation.
This initiative, he added, “fits in perfectly with the ambitions of the landlocked Sahel States, and will help improve the living conditions of the populations, not only in the Sahel but throughout the West African region.”
With regard to the operationalization of this strategic initiative, the two ministers « welcomed the work carried out by the national Task Forces during the meetings held in Rabat in June 2024.”
Abderaman Koulamallah affirmed in this connection that the projects presented by the members of the Moroccan Task Force are in line with the national development plan currently being implemented in Chad.
The Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs also commended the enlightened initiative of King Mohammed VI within the framework of the African Atlantic States Process, aimed at strengthening cooperation by making the African Atlantic area and the Sahel a geostrategic framework for intra-African cooperation.
The two officials also hailed the progress made on the Nigeria-Morocco Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, as a symbol of South-South cooperation which, once completed, will help improve the living conditions of the population and strengthen regional economic integration.
