Nigeria’s inflation rate falls to 23.71% in April 2025

The NBS (National Bureau of Statistics) says Nigeria’s headline inflation rate slightly decreased from 24.23 per cent in March to 23.71 per cent in April 2025.

NBS, which made the announcement in its consumer price index, said “the April 2025 headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.52% compared to the March 2025 headline inflation rate”.
It also explained that on a month-on-month basis, the Headline inflation rate in April 2025 was 1.86%, which was 2.04% lower than the rate recorded in March 2025 (3.90%).

The institution revealed that the annual rate of food inflation in April 2025 was 21.36 percent. According to the bureau, this represents a 19.27 percent decrease from the rate of 40.53 percent in April 2024.

The statistics agency also noticed that “the change in the base year is technically responsible for the significant decline in the food annual inflation figure. Nonetheless, the food inflation rate decreased by 0.12% from March 2025 (2.18%) to 2.06% in April 2025 on a month-over-month basis. “The decline can be ascribed to the rate at which the average prices of soy beans, rice, brown beans, bambara beans, wheat grain, dried okra, yam flour, and maize (corn) flour are declining.”

According to the report, the regions with the highest annual food inflation rates in April 2025 were Benue (51.76 percent), Ekiti (34.05 percent), and Kebbi (33.82 percent). The regions with the slowest increases were Ebonyi (7.19 percent), Adamawa (9.52%), and Ogun (9.91 percent). However, NBS reported that Yobe (13.92%), Ekiti (16.73%), and Benue (25.59%) had the highest monthly food inflation rates.
