Two more confirmed cases of Mpox have been reported by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on May 18, increasing the total number of infections in the nation to four.
On Sunday, May 18, 2025, a press release stated that the new cases were found in the Western Regions and Greater Accra. Health officials confirmed that there is no epidemiological connection between the most recent cases and the two infections that were previously reported earlier this month in a statement signed by Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Ag. Director General of the GHS.
To stop the spread, the corresponding Regional Health Directorates have started contact tracing and other public health initiatives. Mpox is a virus that is spread by close contact with infected people, animals, or contaminated objects, the GHS reminded the public. According to the statement, “Common symptoms include rash, fever, headache, back pain, muscle aches, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.”Health officials advised people to wash their hands frequently, stay away from people who are ill, and report suspected cases right away to the closest medical facility.
Additionally, the Ministry of Health and GHS urged media outlets to assist public education initiatives by providing correct information on how to prevent Mpox. The most recent information comes after the first two Mpox cases in Ghana were reported in a press release on May 15. Health officials have reassured the public that they are prepared to contain the outbreak.
