Floods and Landslides Claim 18 Lives in Kenya Amid Peak Rains

At least 18 people have died in Kenya following severe flooding and landslides triggered by sustained heavy rainfall, according to police on May 3, 2026.

Authorities reported that the disasters affected several counties, including Tharaka Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Kiambu, as the country’s March-to-May rainy season reaches its peak. The National Police Service described the situation as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by the ongoing weather conditions.

Beyond the fatalities, the heavy downpours have damaged infrastructure and displaced numerous residents, compounding humanitarian concerns across affected regions.
