Ethiopia rejects Sudan’s accusations, calls for humanitarian truce and renewed dialogue

Ethiopia has strongly dismissed what it described as “baseless accusations” made by the Sudanese Armed Forces, Sudan’s Foreign Minister, and military spokesperson during a recent joint press briefing.

In a statement from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Addis Ababa reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and historical ties between the peoples of Ethiopia and Sudan, while pushing back against claims linked to the ongoing conflict in Sudan.

Ethiopia accused Sudanese military actors of ignoring alleged involvement of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) elements, alleging that such groups are operating within Sudan with reported support from certain actors. It further claimed there is credible evidence suggesting Sudan has become a base for forces acting against Ethiopia.

The statement also suggested that the accusations against Ethiopia are influenced by external parties pursuing what it termed a “nefarious agenda.”

Despite the diplomatic friction, Ethiopia reiterated its commitment to supporting the Sudanese population and preserving bilateral relations. It also renewed calls for an immediate humanitarian truce, followed by a comprehensive ceasefire and an inclusive, civilian-led political dialogue to end Sudan’s protracted conflict.

The remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region, as both countries navigate the wider instability linked to Sudan’s ongoing civil war.
