Senegal: Plane with 7 people on board disappears

A plane with seven people on board, including one French passenger, has disappeared west of Senegal during a medical evacuation, the Senegalese civil aviation authority said on Sunday.

According to the Senegalese civil aviation authorities’ statement, the aircraft was a private SOS Medecin Senegal plane.

The plane which took off from the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou, on Saturday disappeared from radar screens just 74 miles west of Leopold Sedar Senghor airport in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.

“The search is still going on but it hasn’t been fruitful so far,” Magueye Marame Ndao, head of the aviation authority said.

The plane, chartered by ambulance service SOS Medecin Senegal was flying from Burkina Faso to Senegal with three crew members, a doctor and two nurses as well as the patient (French citizen). Those on board included two Algerians and a citizen of Congo, the aviation authority said, without specifying if that meant Democratic Republic of Congo or Republic of Congo.
